About The Gear

All of the gear sold through Antarctic Surplus was originally issued by the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) for use in some of the harshest conditions on Earth. This isn’t replica or reproduction clothing—it’s the real thing, designed and tested for performance in extreme cold, high winds, and rugged field environments.

While we will occasionally come across gear which is is unused or unissued, the vast majority of these items have seen time in the field and carry signs of wear. We inspect and grade each item individually so you know what to expect, whether you’re buying for function, fashion, or a piece of history.

What Is Sold On Antarctic Surplus?

While the “Big Red” parkas remain the USAP’s most iconic pieces, there’s much more to explore. In addition to various ECW parkas in sizes, we also offer other gear cold-weather essentials used by the U.S. Antarctic Program. It’s important to note that each time we restock, our inventory will change! However, in addition to the Big Reds, we usually are able to offer cold weather boots (ex ‘bunny boots’), military parkas, hats, gloves, and camping gear.

We also offer replica USAP patches—perfect for collectors or those looking to personalize their gear

If you see something you like, get it while you can- when it’s gone, it may be gone for good.

When Do We Restock?

Restocks happen on an irregular basis and depend entirely on when the U.S. Antarctic Program releases additional surplus gear. There’s no set schedule. Because of this, we recommend signing up for our email list if you’d like to be notified as soon as new gear is added to the site. Popular items tend to go quickly, and availability is always limited.
