Product Description

Manufactured by ASICS, these blue FDX boots are one of the standard boot options issued to US Antarctic Program scientists and personnel deploying to the South Pole, McMurdo Station, and other parts of Antarctica. Sometimes described as the warmest option available to USAP personnel, they are popular for deep-field research and can be more comfortable than the solid-rubber Bunny Boots. They are all field-worn from multiple seasons’ service in Antarctica, but are ready to keep a new owner’s feet (exceptionally) warm!

Please note that boot liners are not included with the boots. If we are able to include liners with the boots we will, but they are an added bonus, not part of the purchase price. If included, the liners may be torn or damaged, regardless of the condition chosen. All boots will come with at least one pair of foam insoles.

All gear on the website is listed in men’s sizes unless otherwise specified.

Condition Description

Please note that all the boots, regardless of condition, will show moderate to severe fading.

  • Very Good: The boots will show relatively mild wear and tear, with no splits or tears in the lining. Laces, straps, and buckles will all be present and in good condition. The boots are in functional, wearable condition.
  • Good: The boots will show relatively mild wear and tear, with small or minor splits or tears in the lining, particularly over the toe, and may be stained. Laces, straps, and buckles will all be present and in good condition. The boots are in functional, wearable condition.
  • Fair: The boots will heavier wear and tear, and may have splits or tears in the lining which will need to be repaired. Laces, straps, or buckles may be torn, broken, or missing/removed. From what we can see, some people liked to cut away the ankle strap entirely rather than having to use/buckle each each time the boot was worn. The boots may be visually mismatched (EX one boot may be more stained or faded to a different color than the other)The boots may need minor repair before being worn.

Features

These heavy boots are calf-high, featuring a heavy rubber tread and white (if not replaced) laces threaded through metal eyelets. A strap on the exterior of the boot is meant to be wrapped around the ankle/calf and then secured via a buckle, holding the upper portion of the boot more firmly to the leg. Buyers should be aware that many of the boots we have in stock have damaged or missing straps (see condition descriptions). Many of them appear to have been cut away deliberately by previous wearers.

The boots are meant to be worn with an inner liner (not included; see description) and a felt insole.
