These are NorthFace Extreme Cold Weather tents used by USAP crew on the field to sustain some of the harshest conditions in Antarctica. This is a two-person tent with a bug screen enclosure.
These tents were sourced directly from the Berg Field Center. Commonly abbreviated as “BFC” for short, the Berg Field Center serves as the facility to check out any survival supplies a research team may need when traveling to the most desolate, harshest, and coldest parts of Antarctica. The equipment they have available ranges from tents, sleeping bags, ice axes, crampons and more. When there are no research teams on the field during the dark winter, the support team at BFC repairs any wear and tear on their equipment so that they can issue it once again next season.
