Product Description
This parka entered service in 1996, and is one of the rare non-Canada Goose “big Red” parkas. We believe this may be Northern Outfitters brand, as it looks similar to the Northern Outfitters “Little Red” windbreakers we’ve seen in the past. The fabric is a darker red than the typical Big Red, and has no hood ruff or tight fabric cuffs. Instead of a square reflector between the shoulder blades, there is a narrow reflective strip running the width of the parka’s back. The parka is lighter and less bulky than a standard Big Red, and falls to a typical length rather than covering the tops of the thighs.
The inside of the parka lining is held together by duct tape, with (presumably) rips underneath. The parka is moderately faded and has some mild staining. It will probably need to be dry cleaned.
Did you know that each Big Red used by the USAP program has a serial number written on the inside flap of one of the pockets? This serial number, used to help the program keep track of their gear, usually includes the parka size and the year it entered service.
This parka’s USAP serial number is: 96XS01
